United Notions Film

United Notions Film is an award-winning film and creative technology studio based in Bolivia and Australia, founded in 2006 by Violeta Ayala and Dan Fallshaw. We make documentaries, virtual reality experiences and cinematic installations. We run a lab that develops cinema systems, AI and robotics. Imagination is the key. The Global South builds its own future. Technology is a tool.

La Lucha (2023)

People with disabilities march across the Andes to La Paz to demand a pension.


Premiered at BlackStar Film Festival. Aired on PBS in 2024.




The Fight (2017).

The short film of that same march.


Released worldwide by The Guardian.

Cocaine Prison (2017).

Filmed inside San Sebastián prison in Cochabamba, in part by the inmates themselves.


Premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.


The Bolivian Case (2015).

Three Norwegian teenagers are arrested in Bolivia with 22 kilos of cocaine. The film follows how the media shaped each of their cases.


Premiered at Hot Docs.

Stolen (2009).

A documentary on slavery in the Sahrawi refugee camps.


Premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. Aired on PBS.



Extended Realities

Todo Nace Desde Lo Pequeño (2025).

A live performance where Andean cosmology meets AI. Four dancers embody Earth, Water, Wind and Jaguar.


Premiered at El Martadero in Cochabamba.


Huk the Jaguaress (2025).

An AI installation created at the Mila Québec AI Institute residency.


Premiered at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen. It is part of Huk, an ongoing project.





Las Awichas (2024).

An augmented reality installation of AI-generated Andean grandmothers.


It grew from a 2022 installation at El Martadero in Cochabamba. Shown at King's College London, on the Strand. Winner, Best Interactive / Immersive Documentary, AIDC Awards 2025.


Prison X (2021).

A virtual reality experience set in a Bolivian prison.


Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Released on Steam in 2024. Chapter 1 is titled The Devil and The Sun.
