Yasmeen
Yasmeen Hitti is an engineer and a rebel scientist who thrives on pushing boundaries and finding unconventional solutions to complex problems. Her work spans disciplines like agriculture, robotics, AI, and social justice, with projects ranging from creating open-source IoT sensors for environmental research to exploring feminist narratives through generative AI.
During her PhD at McGill University and Mila Quebec AI Institute, Yasmeen has focused on developing technologies to interface with plant behavior using electrical signals and simulations. She co-led the development of DeepBloom, an open-source sensor platform designed to make environmental data more accessible, and co-founded BiaslyAI, a natural language processing tool to detect misogynistic language in text.
Yasmeen’s contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the New Science Life Science Micro Grant and the AI4GOOD Hackathon prize. Driven by her commitment to open knowledge and ethical innovation, she is dedicated to creating technologies that empower both humans and non-humans.
